Using AI to build LEAP-style practice your students need
Good test prep takes a lot of practice material, and writing it yourself eats up hours. AI can produce fresh, targeted practice in minutes so you can focus on the skills your students are missing.
Ways to use AI for test prep
- Practice sets on one skill. Ask for 10 to 20 questions on exactly the skill your class missed, with an answer key and explanations.
- Original reading passages. Get new passages at the right reading level with questions on main idea, vocabulary in context and inference.
- Constructed-response practice. Ask for a question plus model answers at different score levels so students can see what full credit looks like.
- Review games. Turn a unit into a Jeopardy-style game for the week before testing.
- Leveled versions. Make easier and harder versions of the same question to build students up.
Use it with your data
The biggest payoff comes from pairing AI with what you already know about your students. Look at your benchmark or quiz results, pick the two or three skills that need the most work, and have AI build practice just for those. Describe the results without student names.
Keep it honest
- AI-written questions are practice, not official test items. Use released LEAP practice materials from the Louisiana Department of Education to see the real format.
- Check every answer key. AI can make math mistakes or pick a debatable "correct" answer.
- Mix AI practice with teaching. More questions won't help if students don't understand why they missed them.
